Offer one chew at a time and stay in the room. Keep water nearby, because hard cheese makes dogs thirsty.

Match the stick to the dog. As a rough guide: 1 oz sticks for dogs under 20 lbs, 3 oz and 3.5 oz for 20 to 65 lbs, 5 oz and 6 oz for 65 lbs and up. Size up if your dog is a known destroyer.

The puffs need no hard chewing, so use them as everyday rewards and on the days a hard stick is too much.

Suitable from four months, once the adult teeth are through. Take the chew away once it is small enough to swallow whole.

Two or three stick sessions a week suits most dogs. It is calorie dense, so count it in the day's food rather than on top of it.

Do not bin the last piece of a stick.

Soak it in water for about thirty seconds, microwave it for forty-five, and the moisture inside expands into a light crunchy puff. Let it cool completely before serving, it comes out hot.

There is a bag of ready-made puffs in this box too. Try one of each side by side and see whether your dog can tell the difference. Most cannot.

Store in a cool, dry place. No refrigeration, and no need to reseal the bag. With a box this size, keep it somewhere the dog cannot reach.

Let a stick dry out fully between sessions before putting it back.

Take the chew away once it is small enough to swallow whole. Do not let your dog get to the point of gulping the last piece.

Give each dog their own chew and separate them while they chew. Guarding a high value chew is common even in dogs who normally share everything.

The sticks are hard chews, so they are not right for dogs with dental disease, existing fractures or crowns. Unlike bone or antler they soften as saliva works into them, and they do not splinter. If your dog has had dental problems, use the puffs and ask your vet before offering a stick.
