Offer one stick at a time and stay in the room. Keep water nearby, because hard cheese makes dogs thirsty.

Suitable from four months, once the adult teeth are through. Take the stick away once it is small enough to swallow whole.

Two or three sessions a week suits most dogs. It is calorie dense, so count it in the day's food rather than on top of it.

If you are working through the flavours to find a favourite, give each one two or three sessions before deciding. Some dogs are cautious with anything new on the first go.

Soak it in water for about thirty seconds, microwave it for forty-five, and the moisture inside expands into a light crunchy puff. Let it cool completely before serving, it comes out hot.

Let a stick dry out fully between sessions before putting it back.

Take the chew away once it is small enough to swallow whole. Do not let your dog get to the point of gulping the last piece.

Give each dog their own stick and separate them while they chew. Guarding a high value chew is common even in dogs who normally share everything.

This is a hard chew, so it is not right for dogs with dental disease, existing fractures or crowns. Unlike bone or antler it softens as saliva works into it, and it does not splinter. If your dog has had dental problems, ask your vet first.
